Sierra Club Missouri Chapter Politics and Elections

The Missouri Chapter actively works to endorse and promote candidates for political office. We do this in order to help Missouri Chapter members and others interested in protecting the environment make informed decisions about candidates. The Sierra Club Missouri Chapter also takes positions on referenda and ballot initiatives and makes recommendations for voters.
The Missouri Chapter Political Committee identifies candidates who are expected to best represent the goals of the Sierra Club on environmental issues and legislation. Our goal is to endorse and support candidates who can be counted on to preserve the environment.
We have played an increasingly active role in elections in recent years. This highly active committee welcomes volunteer participation - particularly during the busy campaign season - to assist with research, phone calls and interviews. We are also looking for longer-term volunteer committee members who have knowledge of Missouri politics and wish to be part of the endorsement process.

The Missouri Chapter Legislative Committee monitors and affects the activities of our state legislature. It promotes pro-environmental legislation and and opposes anti-environmental legislation. It organizes meeting with our legislators to discuss pending legislation and to promote positive future legislation. From nuclear power to energy efficiency standards to large factory farms, what happens in Jefferson City affects our life.
