Welcome to the White River Group (WRG) of the Sierra Club! Our homepage is temporarily part of the Missouri Chapter site. We have more than 900 members in our region of the state, which covers 23 counties in southern Missouri. If you are not yet a member or if you have not yet become active with your local group, there are many reasons--outings, interesting programs, causes, volunteer opportunities--to consider joining us.
The last year has seen a resurgence of activity from the Sierra Club’s WRG. With a focus on clean energy and health we have organized to win greater energy efficiency in Southwest Missouri and to move away from coal.
We submitted a shareholder resolution to Empire Electric, calling on it to increase its investments in the energy efficiency of customers’ homes. We used the shareholder resolution to focus media attention on Empire Electric and the need for energy efficiency. After our events Empire committed to expanding energy efficiency programs in 2014!
In Springfield our members are fighting a toxic landfill proposal at the John Twitty Plant, and pushing City Utilities to move beyond coal and invest in the clean energy we need.
We’re always glad to meet new folks, and train new leaders so that we can have stronger campaigns and more Sierra Club outings in the area. If you’d like to get more involved, please contact our executive committee chair Judy Dasovich at 417-830-4916 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
